AffiliateWP Pro – Installation Guide

Overview #

AffiliateWP Pro runs a self-hosted affiliate program in WordPress with affiliate registration, visit and referral tracking, integrations, commission rules, reports, creatives, and payout workflows.

When to use it. Use it when the organization wants direct control of affiliate relationships and can operate the program’s approval, fraud review, payout, tax, and disclosure processes.

Before You Begin #

Platform compatibility. Use a WordPress and PHP combination supported by the current developer release. Minimum versions can change; verify the current official product page or plugin/theme metadata before production deployment. Do not bypass an activation or compatibility warning without identifying its cause.

Requirements and dependencies #

  • – A supported WordPress/PHP environment.
  • – A supported ecommerce, form, donation, or membership integration for conversion tracking.
  • – HTTPS, reliable cron, and email delivery.
  • – Written affiliate terms, privacy, tax, and payout policies.

Pre-installation checks #

  • – Back up and define the referral rate/type, cookie duration, approval rules, excluded products, refund handling, payout threshold, and supported integration.
  • – Create a staging purchase or conversion path.
  • – Identify any existing affiliate cookies or tracking scripts.

Installation #

  1. 1. Go to Plugins > Add New Plugin > Upload Plugin.
  2. 2. Upload the AffiliateWP Pro ZIP, install, and activate it.
  3. 3. Open AffiliateWP and run the setup wizard.
  4. 4. Confirm the Affiliate Area page was created or assign the correct page.
  5. 5. Enable the intended integration and create a test affiliate.

License Activation #

  1. 1. Open AffiliateWP > Settings and use the License tab/field provided by the current interface.
  2. 2. Enter a valid AffiliateWP license key, activate it, and confirm verification. (First, check whether the Pro version is already active, as manual license entry may not be required.)
  3. 3. The resource archive alone does not include an AffiliateWP account, updates, add-on access, or vendor support.

Important. A premium download does not automatically establish ownership of the original developer’s account, license key, automatic-update service, cloud features, or direct support. Use only Credentials that are valid for this site and were supplied through an authorized account or an explicit Nippy Launch entitlement.

Initial Setup #

  1. 1. Configure business currency and referral rate/type.
  2. 2. Set cookie duration, affiliate URL variable, and registration/approval behavior.
  3. 3. Enable only the live integration used for conversions.
  4. 4. Configure emails, creatives, payout workflow, and terms.
  5. 5. Complete the full visit-to-referral lifecycle in a clean browser.

Recommended Configuration #

  • – Start with manual affiliate approval and payout review.
  • – Use a rate that matches margins after refunds, taxes, shipping, and fees.
  • – Exclude administrators, self-referrals, test orders, and ineligible products.
  • – Confirm referral status changes when an order is refunded or canceled.
  • – Use one affiliate tracking owner and document external analytics separately.

Main Features #

The installed edition can provide the following primary capabilities. Availability may depend on the active plan, add-ons, and current release.

  • – Affiliate registration and Affiliate Area
  • – Visit and referral tracking
  • – Integration-driven conversion creation
  • – Commission and status rules
  • – Creatives, reports, and payout workflows

How to Use It #

Practical starting workflow. Approve a test affiliate, open its referral URL in a private browser, complete a sandbox conversion through the enabled integration, approve the referral, issue a refund, and verify status and payout eligibility at every step.

Integrations #

  • – WooCommerce, MemberPress, forms, donations, and other officially supported integrations
  • – Email and payout services
  • – REST/API and add-on capabilities where included in the active plan

Enable an integration only after its account ownership, permissions, data flow, and failure behavior have been tested. Keep secret Credentials out of page content and screenshots.

Common Issues & Troubleshooting #

  • – Visits are not recorded. Check the affiliate URL, cookie/consent state, cache, security rules, and browser tracking prevention.
  • – Visit exists but referral does not. Confirm the specific integration is enabled and the conversion reaches a supported completed status.
  • – Commission amount is wrong. Review rate/type, product exclusions, discounts, taxes, shipping, order status, and affiliate-specific rates.
  • – Affiliate Area is blank. Confirm the assigned page, shortcode/block, login state, and page cache exclusions.
  • – License verification fails. Confirm the key, Domain allocation, and outbound HTTPS access.

If the problem persists, reproduce it on staging, capture the exact error and relevant logs, and compare the behavior with nonessential plugins temporarily disabled. Restore the production site rather than troubleshooting destructively in place.

Updating the Plugin or Resource #

  1. 1. Back up and export program data.
  2. 2. Update on staging and repeat registration, visit, conversion, refund, emails, and payout tests.
  3. 3. Monitor new referrals and scheduled tasks after production deployment.
  • – Confirm that the backup completed and can be accessed independently of WordPress.
  • – Review the official changelog and compatibility notes.
  • – Update during a low-risk window and keep a tested rollback path.
  • – Clear relevant caches and perform the product-specific functional tests listed above.

Uninstallation #

  1. 1. Export affiliates, visits, referrals, creatives, payouts, and settings.
  2. 2. Resolve outstanding commissions and remove public program links.
  3. 3. Preserve or redirect published affiliate URLs intentionally.

Deactivation and deletion are not the same as data removal. Confirm the product’s current cleanup options, Database tables, uploaded files, remote data, connected accounts, and continuing external billing or scheduled actions before removal.

Security & Best Practices #

  • – Use least privilege and multi-factor authentication for program managers.
  • – Review fraud, self-referrals, duplicate accounts, and suspicious conversions.
  • – Protect tax and payout data.
  • – Publish clear affiliate disclosures, privacy terms, and payout rules.
  • – Use unique administrator accounts, least-privilege roles, HTTPS, and multi-factor authentication where supported.
  • – Keep the resource, WordPress, PHP, theme, and dependencies on supported versions.
  • – Store backups and recovery instructions outside the WordPress site.
